Funding for the Project

Cost of the Project: The majority of the funding for this project came directly from the Capital Funds of the Defiance Public Library System. These funds were used to first renovate our branch libraries in Hicksville (Johnson Memorial Library) and Sherwood (Sherwood Branch Library) and are now funding the Main Library's renovation with the remaining $700,000. The project's projected cost was $1.76 million, but due to economic conditions, the library decided to scale back the project to $1.26 million and fundraise $500,000 from private donors. The DPLS operational levy did not fund this project.

The Crown Jewel Fundraising Campaign: Our fundraising campaign kicked off quietly in October of 2009 led by a committee of 30 female community leaders. In February the steering committee announced that they had surpassed our $500,000 goal!

Over our Goal: Though we have reached our goal we will continue to fundraise through April, 2010. Funds raised above our goal ensure that additional parts of the project that was originally recommended as our most efficient and cost-effective method will take place.
