Internet Access Policy

In response to advances in technology and the changing needs of the community, the Defiance Public Library endeavors to provide a wide variety of resources and programs to fulfill the intellectual, educational, and recreational needs of Defiance County residents and other patrons.  It is within this context that the Defiance Public Library offers access to the Internet through the Ohio Public Library Information Network (OPLIN).

Most of the information available on OPLIN is not generated by the Defiance Public Library or OPLIN.  The Library through OPLIN provides access to reference databases of general and special periodical materials, readers’ advisory services, homework centers to assist students and research assignments, and legislative, historical, and archival materials and information.

The Defiance Public Library and OPLIN are not responsible for the content of the networked information.  All information available through OPLIN and the Internet is presented “as is” with the user assuming all risk for its use.  The Information is not warranted by the Defiance and OPLIN to be accurate, authoritative, factual or complete.  The availability of networked information via the Defiance Public Library does not constitute any endorsement or ratification of that information.

  • All users of the library computers and Internet access must conform to the libraries’ policies and procedures.
  • The use of OPLIN and the Internet to engage in any activity that constitutes a violation of any local, state, or federal law is strictly prohibited.
  • The Internet links thousands of computers around the world, with no single organization or agency having responsibility for its content.  Thus, it is likely that some of the information available will be found to be controversial, offensive, or unsuitable for minors.  Parents must instruct their minor children as to what uses are permissible.
  • The user agrees to indemnify and hold the Defiance Public Library and OPLIN harmless from any and all claims, losses, damages, or liability arising directly or indirectly from the use of OPLIN and the Internet, including liability for indirect, special, punitive, or consequential damages, lost profits, or attorney fees, even if the Defiance Public Library or OPLIN is advised of the possibility of such damages.
