Celebrate Library Card Sign-up Month this September with Defiance Public Library System and the American Library Association! We’re inviting everyone to discover the incredible resources and opportunities available at your local library by signing up for a library card.
The campaign started in 1987 as a response to then Secretary of Education William Bennett, who stated, “Let’s have a campaign … Every child should obtain a library card and use it.”
This year’s special ambassador is Optimus Prime from the TRANSFORMERS, highlighting that there’s more than meets the eye at your county libraries. Whether you’re looking to enhance your skills, find valuable information, or connect with fellow avid readers, a library card unlocks a world of possibilities.
Today’s libraries are vibrant community centers offering much more than just books. At Defiance Public Library System’s three locations, you’ll find diverse programs, book clubs, author talks, story times, and more. Learn a new skill in the Makerspace at DPL, check out a telescope, metal detector, or ghost-hunting kit from the Library of Things, or borrow a museum pass and head off on a family (or solo!) adventure. There’s truly something for everyone at Defiance Public Library System. Getting a library card is easy and is an essential step toward academic success and lifelong learning for students. Everyone should have one!
Plus, everyone who signs up for a new library card at Defiance Public, Sherwood Branch, or Hicksville’s Johnson Memorial Library during the month will be entered into a drawing to receive the cozy fall gift basket pictured below, courtesy of our three Friends of the Library groups (one winner per location). To sign up for yours, stop into any of our libraries, or start the process here.
