Getting a COVID-19 test kit from DPLS libraries

BinaxNOW COVID-19 rapid antigen tests (self-administered) provided by the Ohio Department of Health at no cost to the library or patron will be available for pickup at all three of our library locations (Defiance, Sherwood, Hicksville) while supplies last. 

  • Kits are limit 1 per person or 4 per household per day, in accordance with Ohio Department of Health and Ohio Library Council guidelines.
  • Kits are distributed on a first come, first served basis. Test kits cannot be held by library staff for later pickup.
  • DPLS cannot provide test kits in bulk to businesses for employee testing. Individual employees are welcome to obtain their test kits at the library.

How do I get one?

If you are sick, and cannot send a family member or friend to pick up your test, please call and our staff will be happy to bring one to your vehicle. You can also request a test kit inside any DPLS library location during business hours.

How does it work?

The test involves a nasal swab, in conjunction with an eMed telemedicine session using the NAVICA app, available for download in the Apple or Google Play stores. Just scan the code on the box, then watch a 2-minute instructional video at ohio.emed.com. When you’re ready to test, an eMed proctor will join you to walk you through the process. The test detects the virus in its early stages, when people are most infectious, and results take just 15 minutes to obtain. Results, quarantining instructions in the event of a positive test, and other precautions are directed.

Results remain in the app for 7 days and can be used to demonstrate the result to your employer or school. For public health reporting, eMed sends results through the electronic lab reporting system.

(Those who need an internet connection to complete the process are encouraged to call their library and inquire about borrowing a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot.)
