Using the Library for Parents

Defiance Public Library System offer resources for every member of your family no matter what age. Your free DPLS card gives you access to:
  • All three library locations in Defiance, Hicksville, and Sherwood
  • Over 6 million items in our online catalog
  • Downloadables including eBooks, digital magazines, audiobooks, and movies
  • Audiovisual items including DVDs, CDs, books on CD, and Playaway personal MP3 players
  • Quality online databases for research and games
  • Year-round classes and events for every interest, age, and skill level
  • Free internet/Wi-Fi access for everyone age 5 and up
Ages 0-5
Read, Rhyme & Romp: Interactive brain-building classes featuring books, music, and rhymes for ages 0-3
Storytime: Using picture books, rhymes, music, and more, ages 0-6 will begin to learn important reading skills such as vocabulary and storytelling.
Play area: Each DPLS location offers a colorful youth area complete with books, toys, games, and early-learning computers perfect for an afternoon out of the house.
Ages 5-12
Youth cards: Beginning at age 5, children can get their very own DPLS library card. A parent/guardian signature is required.
Databases: Finding trusted online information is an important skill at even the youngest ages. Our kid-friendly databases teach students how to choose and research topics.
Ages 12-18
Teen eventsAfter-school events keep teens and tweens active and engaged throughout the year. Games, projects, special presentations, Fuze Event planners, Book Bytes, and parties are just a handful of the activities they can participate in.
Young-adult collection: Each DPLS location has YA materials geared toward teens and tweens. Novels, graphic novels, magazines, audiobooks, and Playaways are selected for teen interests and reading levels.
Homeschool Family Card
Families who homeschool may apply for a Homeschool Family Card. By checking out everything under one account, this card is a convenient way to pick up materials for everyone in your family and a great way to keep track of all the items you have borrowed.
