A Visit from the First Lady of Ohio!

On Wednesdsay, Sept. 28, Defiance Public Library hosted Fran DeWine, First Lady of Ohio, for a very special visit & storytime session. We were honored to welcome Mrs. DeWine to our lovely library, and thankful she and her team made time to stop by our little jewel at the confluence!

Special thanks to Rep. Craig Riedel, Defiance Mayor Mike McCann, the Defiance County Commissioners, United Way of Defiance County, Chris Korhn & Beth Michel of the DPLS Board of Trustees, Holy Cross Catholic School, media members, and everyone else who joined us! And ANOTHER special thanks to History Studios in downtown Defiance, for assisting us in preparing a special gift for the First Lady.

DeWine came to share information on Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a book-gifting program that supports early literacy by providing free books to children from birth to age 5. You can find out more about the program by clicking here. She also collects Beanie Babies for a charity called Hands Together, which sends the stuffed toys–as well as Hot Wheels cars–to children in need at Christmastime. While here, Holy Cross students showered her with donated Beanie Babies!

Enjoy these pictures of our exciting day at DPL!
